Regional conference on "Best Practice and Learning in Community Based Early Warning"
Kathmandu, May 23rd 2012

This past month, Mercy Corps, with Practical Action and the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, organized a Regional conference - "Best Practice and Learning in Community Based Early Warning" in Kathmandu, Nepal.

The conference centered on the issue of “first/last mile connectivity”- the difficult issue of how to ensure communities is linked to information sources around them.

The event brought together practitioners and would-be practitioners to share experience and examine similarities and differences in approaches from organizations and systems across the region. Participants presented from Bangladesh, India and Nepal highlighting best practices and innovative approaches.

The event launched the publication “Community based Early Earning Systems in South and South East Asia: Best Practice and Learning 2012” highlighting EWS work in the region.
