Call for Expression of Interest (EoI)

Call for Expression of Interest (EoI)

Mercy Corps has been implementing the Managing Risk through Economic Development (MRED) project to build disaster-ready communities by strengthening the capacity of vulnerable populations to minimize the impact of natural hazards and climate-related shocks on lives and livelihoods. The project establishes a sustainable Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) model through multi-stakeholder partnerships with the government (national and subnational), private sectors, and civil society.
MRED takes a unique approach by integrating Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction (CBDRR) with Market System Development (MSD), linking financially viable livelihood options that provide dual benefits—known as “nexus interventions.” The project also strengthens communities by fostering connections through bonding, bridging, and linking them with public, private, and civil society actors.
MRED empowers smallholder farmers to build resilience through economic and ecological systems that help them manage shocks and stresses. Rooted in traditional DRR programming, the project enhances social capital and physical systems by working with Community Disaster Management Committees (CDMCs) linked to national and subnational institutions. This collaboration strengthens early warning systems (EWS), disaster response, mitigation, and preparedness. The nexus approach also encourages the adoption of climate-resilient agricultural commodities with economic growth potential, promoting both income generation and disaster preparedness.

Through strong partnerships with the Government of Nepal (GoN), the private sector, and local communities, MRED has secured increased investments to sustain program achievements and expand the model to new communities using non-program resources and a neighborhood approach to DRRM.
The next phase of the program will be implemented in 25 communities across seven rural/municipalities in Kailali and Kanchanpur districts. This three-year phase will begin in April 2025. Mercy Corps is seeking one local implementing organization (NGO or CBO) with a strong track record in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, risk-sensitive livelihoods, the nexus approach (integrating DRRM with livelihoods), Nature-Based Solutions (NbS), and a commitment to Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI), as well as expertise in disaster risk governance-related work.

Interested organizations are requested to submit their proposals by COB 5:00 PM, March 24, 2025, following the guidelines available at the link provided below https://nepal.mercycorps.org/procurement/. EOI can be submitted either via email NepalEoi@mercycorps.org
